It shows how we should always think before we react and give people you rely on the benefit of the doubt and never jump to conclusions. The Drowning Day is a thought-provoking and meaningful story about friendship, trust, hope and above all, survival. Helped by Spike, a friend of her Granddaddy, they head off to High-Town. (Technically, there is one, but he is only a bit-part player).Īs Jade find secrets about her Granddaddy that involve Bates, she enlists both Bates and the feral Samson in a scheme to rescue her sister Mona. Makes a change for the antagonist not to be some evil, nasty, vile character but the impending floodwaters. Looking at how far would you go to increase your chances of survival. Quite a thoughtful and emotional opening to the book. What probably clinched it was the sovereign coins with King William V portrait on them. I assumed it was set in England, what with North-Hampton and Little-Norfolk, but the book did not come out and say so. The Drowning Day is a novel that takes us into a dystopian future where the land is partially devastated by the floods and fears of more forever on the horizon. Thank you, UCLan Publishing and NetGalley, for the advanced copy.
